What is the difference between Nutramigen and Nutramigen AA....?
or is there a difference? Also is Neocate in the same category as the Nutramigen formulas? I'm clueless...lol. My son couldn't tolerate Similac Advance or Nutramigen, gave him bloody diarrhea. So now he's on Similac Isomil, but it's made him miserably constipated. I want to do a bit of research on my own so we can discuss it at his next doctors appointment. Thanks a bunch 
Nutramigen is a hydrolyzed or elemental protein formula that is lactose free, hypoallergenic, and made of extensively broken down proteins. Nutramigen is good for babies with both cow's milk protein allergy and soy protein allergy. Alimentum Advance is another brand name for the same kind of formula.
Nutramigen AA and Neocate are the same. Nutramigen AA is a non-allergic formula made of amino acids. This type of formula is for babies who cannot digest Nutramigen because of severe cow's milk allergy and/or multiple protein allergies (soy, gluten, milk). The great thing about Nutramigen AA is that it can be covered by insurance if it is deemed a medical necessity by the child's doctor.
sensitive stomach.. can tolerate rice cereal??
For the babies that take alimentum or neocate formula, how did your baby tolerate rice cereal? My daughter is now 4 months old and the doctor said we can start or wait til 6 months we both agreed it wuold be best to wait 6 months since she has such a sensitive stomach but I am just curious as to how your son/daughter did? My doctor said sometimes not always but sometimes even though the baby has a hard time with the formula they might be able to be okay with the rice cereal...so I was just wondering what you experienced...thanks for answers in advance!!
My son was on Alimentum until he was 15 mo old. He had no problem with Rice Cereal. We first started putting the cereal in his bottle because of reflux but about 4 1/2 mo we started spoon feeding it. Rice Cereal is chosen as a first food because it's least offensive to their tiny systems.
