Jungle fever friends, Have you seen them? Do you know them? What do you think of them? Are you one of them?
I don't want these questions to have a negative tone. I have several diverse friends. The questions come because a guy at my church really wants ethnic friends and came up to the group I was in, all 4 of us a different ethnic background (Black, Asian-American, White, Mexican) and started speaking broken English. He graduate from college and I have heard him speak. I wanted to drop kick him into next week. After he left we all laughed about it but had different reactions. One of which was it was nice that he tried to relate and is intentional about making friends outside of his race. Leading to the question: Jungle fever friends, people who intentionally engage in multi-ethnical friendships. Have you seen them? Do you know them? What do you think of them? Are you one of them?
Yes, always. When I was in the Army, whenever I came into a new unit, white people would hang out with me initially because I was white. As word would slowly spread that I dated black women, exclusively; you could noticeably see the difference in who was willing to hang out with me. The white peeps would filter out and the black peeps would filter in. I would purposely not advertise the fact that I loved black women, it made it much easier to see which white peeps were racist, prejudiced or down like me; I would make mental notes accordingly as to whom I would or would not save their a** on the battlefield or have their back in a bar-fight.
