We found a baby bird the kids want to keep it what should I feed it?
My husband was working on his truck and a baby bird flew on top of the intake he caught it and the kids want to keep it we put it in a cage with water but have no idea what to feed it.
We raise chicks so I do know how to care for small birds should I feed it chick food though?
I DO PLAN TO LET THE BIRD FREE BUT AS OF RIGHT KNOW IT CAN'T FLY IF I LET IT GO THE DOGS OR CATS (ALSO MY PETS) WILL KILL IT WHICH WOULD BE MORE CRUEL? IT CAN ONLY FLY IN LITTLE 2 FEET SPANS IT HAS NO CHANCE FROM GATOR (our cat that catches bats in mid air).
I think it may be a robin unsure of age.
I have no idea about wild birds we feed them in the yard but not in captivity. We looked around the trees for a nest I know it had to have flown from a nest but I live in the country and I cant inspect every tree around the area I would be out there for days.
I raised a nest full of baby birds when their nest was disrupted and didnt loose a single one. Buy them Infant cereal. I used the mixed grain but any will do. Feed extremely small amounts about six to eight times a day and dont feed them at night. Wild birds dont eat at night and they will not starve. Just be sure to keep them in a warm (not hot) area with no drafts. When they start eating two dropperfulls of baby cereal in one feeding its time to offer small amounts of bird seed. Just be sure you see them eating the seed before you let them go. Most birds dont survive off of bugs. They need grains. And the only water they will need at first is the water you will mix into the infant CEREAL. (NOT FORMULA)
At what age can kids start baby sitting?
Would it be okay for my step-kids (12 and 14) to be left in charge for a couple of hours in the evening while the baby is sleeping? She usually sleeps really well so it's unlikely they'd have to do anything and we're not thinking of going far. The kids could call the minute the baby (one year old) woke up and we'd come straight home. Would it be okay?
They really are great kids and very aware of the ground rules in our house - they know how much trouble they'd be in for breaking them too!
It depends on how mature your kids are. I babysat starting when I was around 12 or 13. I also babysat with another girl my age. If they are together it makes it easier if something would come up. That way one person can tend to the baby and the other person can call you. Just make sure you set up some rules for babysitting so you don't have any problems (like no friends over without your knowledge...etc..). I hope it works out for you! You need a break sometimes!
