Should you only use bit guards on loose rings?
Or can you use them on other bits?
I was reading somewhere and someone said that bit guards prevent pinching and they also prevent the bit from being pulled through the horses mouth(but this is really only an issue when breaking a horse).So I was wondering if you could use bit guards on other bits?AND would the "pulling the bit through a horses mouth" be an issue if you have a bit that isn't rounded such as a full-cheek or fulmer or D-ring etc?
Pulling the bit through the mouth is usually only an issue with loose cheek O rings. If a bit is poorly fitted, and too wide for the horse's mouth, bit guards can be used to improve the fit. The issue of pinching only occurs with loose ring snaffles. So, you can use them with other bits, but the only reason would be to improve the fit.
Actually, I have seen them on loose jaw shanked bits, which could be for pinching as well.
