When should I start baby on a schedule?
I have a 7 week old baby boy. I want to start getting more structure to our days....is it too young to start letting him cry it out when he won't fall asleep on his own? Or to make him wait so he feeds every 2 or 3 hours? How did you do it?
Please please please don't let your baby cry it out. There are other methods. I know every baby is different but my baby is proof that it's possible to put baby on a schedule without crying it out. And never ever let your baby go without food just to try and set a schedule. I must say, no offense, but some of the questions asked by moms on here scare me. When a baby cries out of hunger you feed him no questions asked.
Now, based on my personal experience, patience is key when it comes to your newborn. You will learn to survive off of 3 hours of sleep because as a mommy your body adjusts very quickly in order to care for baby. In the evenings, play with baby as much as possible, whether you're doing tummy time, dancing to music, going outside for a few minutes. When baby gets fussy (cries) or when it's time to eat give baby a bottle, give a bath, start turning out lights, turning off the tv, anything you can do to set the mood for sleep. He won't get to sleep right away at first, it will take a few weeks but eventually baby will set his own schedule. My 3 month old now gets sleepy between 8-9. When he shows signs of hunger I give him a quick but warm bath, feed him his bottle, and get him in a fresh sleeper. Then gently rock him, read to him, etc. He still gets fussy but as I continue to hold and rock him he's usually asleep by 9. then I put him right in his crib. He set his own schedule and I just followed his lead and found the best techniques to help him get to sleep. Good luck.
When did you start baby on table foods?
I'll admit I give my son a taste here and there of some things Im eating (it's hard not to when he reaches for everything on my plate ha)
He is almost 7 months old, and has been on pureed fruits and veggies since he was 5 months.
He also eats baby rice cookies, and has no problem picking up the pieces and putting them in his mouth.
No teeth yet, but Ive seen babies go til they are 18 months without teeth, and they learn to just gum the food

not at all!
after six months, if he wants to eat it, he probably can.
we spent months not even serving my daughter a plate of her own - we just put extra on ours because she'd run from me to her father and back again picking off our plates (usually whatever we happened to be chewing at the moment).
i should add that by 8 months, she was eating apples (hand her the apple and let her chew, skin and all) and her favourite meal was (still is) curry goat.
