Where is the best place to live in the Tampa Bay Area?
I am going to moving from California to Florida because it is less expensive, and the weather is good ( I did my undergrad education there and loved living there). What is a good city/neighborhood to live in the Tampa Bay Area? I would like to be near the water, if possible, but something not too expensive. I would like to rent a small house.
Come on over, I suggest you find an apartment first, sign a 6 mo lease. Why? because there are many areas in the Bay Area that are nice to live in and many that you should stay away from.
Find you a JOB and then you will have a idea of driving conditions to and from work. The Tampa bay area is a traffic nightmare so making a decision this way will help ease the work week and then be less stressed for the beach on the weekend.
Most areas in the Tampa Bay area are with in 45 min from the beaches on the weekends.
My recommendation right now is for the New Port Richy or the Port Richy area for a house...

What is a decent amount of money to have saved to move from SE Michigan to Tampa Bay, Florida?
My friend and I were thinking about moving from Southeast Michigan down to Tampa Bay, Florida. I was just curious as to a reasonable amount of money to have saved up for at least... 3 months? With shared rent, and the bare minimum for miscellaneous things. I have most furnishings for an apartment already, and I might not even need a truck to take everything down. Like I said, bare minimum.
$150 for the ride from SE MI to Tampa. Gas, food, cheap one-nighter at motel.
$1200 a month for a small apartment, with basic services included. Deposit is NOT included.
$300 a month for food. Based upon the dollar menu, 3 times day, at McDonalds. No Big Macs.
$70 a month for basic cable TV and basic internet. No HBO.
$100 a month for emergency. Minor car breakdown, stick and tape for a twisted ankle, gator bite, medicine for flu bug.
$50 a month for a small trinket or an extra piece of bread. After all, you said bare minimum.
I'm thinking around $5000 for 3 months.
