How to build wood dvd wall shelves ?
We want to do this with little money and easy to do . We want the shelving to go around the room 4 walls . Over the doors and window also . Thanks for any hints or tips. We are wood working dummys so please keep that in mind. Shelfs cost way to much for us to buy .Even if we had the money which we do not right now.
Take a trip to Home Depot! Go to the shelving section and pick out some shelving brackets. Preferable not the super cheap "L" shape bracket, they aren't sturdy enough. Spend the few extra cents each and get the triangle brackets. They should be around $5 each with the mounting hardware. Next you need a plank of wood that is 3/4"x6"x96" which runs about $8 each. You should have at least 3 brackets per length of wood. Mount the brackets to the wall studs which are 16" on center. Attach one bracket to every other stud (32" apart) using a 1-1/4" wood screws. Next lay the painted (or stained) wood on top and screw it to the brackets. You could get away with buying this in sections like 1 set per payday for around $25.
Then every week you could just add another 8' until you've finished the room. You won't need much more than a screwdriver, tape measure, paint brush, and hand saw to do the entire project. Have fun, the first section will be the hardest (learning) and will get alot easier with each one after.
What can i do with a wall of book shelves?
i have a whole wall of bookshelves in my room. they are wonderful and i love them but i don't know what to display on them? i have books and some pictures obviously but what else could i put up? i also tend to throw clutter on them and over a few months time they look cluttered and untidy
Stores like Lowe's or Target sell pretty baskets or decorative boxes - you can organize and stash your clutter in there, and some could hold clothing or papers or magazines.
I have some and they look really cute on my bookshelves. Measure how deep your shelves are and the height between them before you go shopping, though.
